Because of Rocket Fizz’s rapid expansion through franchise locations, Co-owner Richard Shane was looking for something with to help him keep tabs on the company-owned stores as well as the franchisees.

From revenue tracking and roll-up reporting, to monitoring a store’s performance remotely, Shane needed a web-based POS that could do it all. He also needed something that could be set up easily and quickly.

Managing Diverse Inventory

Each store offers more than 500 kinds of soda (100 of which they manufacture themselves) as well as over 2000 candy products. With so many SKUs, it’s no wonder they searched long and hard for a POS that could mange their inventory, and integrate with their growing business.

Rocket Fizz works with several different candy wholesale companies, many of whom change the names of their products often. “We needed a POS that could handle these constant product name changes. We deal with 5 to 300 product changes on a weekly basis. Lightspeed can handle it,” explains Shane.

Choice of Hardware

For franchisees, the option to choose their hardware is also a huge advantage to using a Cloud POS. “The choice to use anything from a Mac to a Windows 8 touch computer is a wonderful benefit of Lightspeed,” says Shane. “Franchisees don’t need expensive desktop computers or servers because everything is stored in the cloud—all they need is a good Internet connection and their data is secure.” Many of the Rocket Fizz stores also use tablets (Mac or other) to help them with inventory counts.


“You can do a physical count of the store with Lightspeed running on an iPad, leaving the main checkout POS free. It’s a great tool to have in the back office too.” Ultimately, the web-based solution is a crucial element to helping the Rocket Fizz owners look out for their entire business no matter where they are. For Shane, data such as end-of-week sales summaries is essential to help him monitor the business. “This information is crucial to us—our family jewels are really in Lightspeed’s hands.”
