Michelin 2023: These are the Newest Starred Restaurants in Great Britain and Ireland

On Monday 27 March 2023, the coveted Michelin stars were awarded. During the annual ceremony, the French tyre and guide group awards its stars to a select group of top gastronomic addresses in Great Britain and Ireland. These restaurants will officially belong to the prestigious circle of starred spots from then on.

In 2022, Great Britain and Ireland had 194 star restaurants. This year, in Great Britain and Ireland, the number rose to 206, with 173 one-star restaurants, 25 two-star restaurants, and eight three-star restaurants. These are Great Britain and Ireland’s newest Michelin star restaurants for 2023.

In 2023, 20 restaurants have been awarded a Michelin star for the first time:

2 Michelin star

In 2023, the following Michelin-starred restaurants have been awarded a second Michelin star for the first time:

  • Alex Dilling at Hotel Café Royal, London, England
  • dede, Baltimore, Republic of Ireland
  • The Ledbury, London, England

A fantastic rise in the ranks for each of these restaurants.

3 Michelin star

A rare, and almost legendary place on the culinary world stage are the restaurants that manage to secure three Michelin stars. In 2022, there were eight in the United Kingdom. This year, the same eight restaurants retained their stars.

The green Michelin stars

Since 2021, green stars have been awarded to the restaurants and chefs committed to a sustainable future. These restaurants combine culinary excellence with outstanding eco-friendly commitments. Last year, nine restaurants in Great Britain and Ireland received a green star. This year, four restaurants received a green star for the first time:

  • Apricity, London, England
  • Crocadon, St Mellion, England
  • Culture, Falmouth, England
  • Osip, Bruton, England

The young chef award

In addition to all these stars, the young chef award was also presented. This award highlights up-and-coming talent in Great Britain and Ireland that is already making a special impact at a young age.

Michelin’s young chef award for 2023 goes to:

  • Sarah Hayward, The Coach in Marlow, England

Sommelier award

Once again this year, Michelin is presenting a sommelier award to highlight the outstanding talent, in-depth knowledge and perfect pairing skills of one sommelier in Great Britain and Ireland. This year, the 2023 Michelin sommelier award goes to:

  • Tara Ozols, SO|LA, London, England

Chef mentor award

Michelin’s chef mentor award goes to someone who not only cooks exceptionally well, but inspires and teaches others to do the same. This year, Michael Deane from Eipic in Belfast was the deserving winner.

Welcome and service award

The food and wine can be fantastic, but it needs to be matched with exceptional service. Michelin’s welcome and service award celebrates someone who has a passion for their craft, and a skill for anticipating a guests’ every need. Congratulations to Declan Maxwell at Spitalfields, Dublin.

Exceptional cocktail award

An inaugural award for 2023, created for restaurants that put as much thought into the cocktails as they do the food. Congratulations to this year’s winner, Makis Kazakis at Park Chinois, London.

Bib Gourmand

The Bib Gourmand award goes to restaurants that offer good food at competitive prices. This year, 20 restaurants in Great Britain and Ireland will receive Bib Gourmand recognition for the first time:
